Our Teachers


Education/Certification: TX. Cert., B.A. Ed. – General Education with specialization in Kindergarten.

Mrs. Gookin received her degree from the University of Texas and has taught a number of grades from Pre-First through Junior High. She has been a County and School Science Fair Judge several times in addition to winning 1st place with Brookfield’s Pre-First class at the Regional Science Fair. She is also trained in our math program, Singapore Math. Mrs. Gookin first found her way to Brookfield’s program in 2004, and from then on, it has been her favorite place to teach. Consistent with her educational specialization, Mrs. Gookin’s first love has always been the Pre-First grade level and she is very excited to teach Pre-First at Brookfield. Mrs. Gookin moved to the Reno area in 1997 with her husband and two children, and continues to live in the south Reno area. In her spare time she enjoys fishing, cooking, board games, swimming, and dog agility training with her Australian Shepherd, “Vader”.

Education/Certification: B.A., Elem. Ed.

Mr. Aitchison was born and raised in Northern California. He graduated from California State University, Chico in 2011 with his Bachelors of Art degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Physical Education. Mr. Aitchison has had a lifelong love for sports and physical activity. He has experience as an elite player, coach, and referee. Mr. Aitchison strives to create the foundation for a physically active lifestyle in each child. Mr. Aitchison is currently working on his Nevada certification. He is very excited to have his own classroom teaching Jr. Kindergarten at TLC.

Mrs. Claudia Menesini has been teaching for over thirty some years. She has taught at Brookfield since 2007. She earned her Bachelors Degree in elementary education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership. Also, she has TESOL endorsement. She feels Brookfield School is a wonderful, exciting place to teach. Mrs. Menesini feels that everyone at Brookfield School shares the love of learning.

Mrs. Leila Post has been working with children since 1996 in WCSD. She has taught 1st through 4th grades and was an Instructional Coach of teachers for 3 years. Mrs. Post has been teaching at Brookfield School since 2014. She has a BA in English, and earned her Masters degree at USC in Early Childhood Education and Teacher Education. She moved from Southern California to Reno in 1991 with her husband and 2 sons and loves living here. She is very excited to be teaching at Brookfield School, which fosters an environment of support for the whole-child. She is thrilled to be part of a staff dedicated to lifelong learning.

Mrs. Vanelda Bratt has been teaching and working withyoung children since 1991. She has a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s in ECESE and Education. She has been teaching at Brookfield School since 2007. She lives in Truckee, CA and still has very close ties to Reno and the community. She is looking forward to another fun and exciting year.

Mrs. DeRosa is very excited to join the Brookfield family and support individualized instruction. Mrs. DeRosa taught Second and Third Grade at St. Teresa’s in Carson City for seven years. Her career with children started in the 1990’s when she worked in early childhood in Washoe County for 8 years. She then decided to try the business world and had the opportunity to open her own bridal shop in Reno, which she ran successfully for five years. However, she soon realized her passion was with children. She went back to college and completed her masters in education, and has enjoyed being in the classroom ever since!

Ms. Rebecca Parkin received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from San Diego State University. She holds a K-8 teaching credential from Chico State University and has been teaching since 2007. Ms. Parkin, her husband, and two daughters live in South Reno. Together, they enjoy running, listening to music, and participating in snow sports. Ms. Parkin’s passion for teaching is implemented through her whole-child approach to education. She is committed to the development of each child’s mind, body, and social development.
