We are still waiting for a link from Mount Rose to enable you to register for the Friday afternoon Lessons that begin in January 2018 for children 4-12 years old. We will pass this along as soon as we receive it.

As the temperature swings get more wild, students will be wearing more layers and accessories, and then removing them throughout the day. Please label your child's sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. We prefer first and last name, but whatever identification you can fit on items will help you retain your clothing.

Parents, like it or not, it is candy season! We know how hard the temptation to toss a little sweetie in your child's lunchbox is, but we hope you keep those treats at home. Please remember that we are a nut-free school, and this includes peanut butter candy.

BIGHORN BASKETBALL GAME: Brookfield families are invited to the Bighorn's Opening Night on Friday, November 10th @ 7pm! Bring your family and friends for an exciting night of basketball! Take advantage of special group seating and ticket prices of $10 per person.

Reserve your seats today with the Brookfield School Front Office at 775-825-0257. Payments will be accepted at the front office and tickets will be distributed the week of the game. Don't forget that Brookfield kids get to participate in the Half Time High Five Tunnel.

PARENT SURVEY: Your opinion matters! Please take a quick second to complete our survey about the school start times and calendar. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RCXXFPF

Please be advised that Washoe County is reporting an increased number of cases of viral meningitis, especially in the 5-17 age group. Viral meningitis is the most common type of meningitis. It is often less severe than bacterial meningitis, and most people get better on their own (without treatment) within 7-10 days. However, it is very important for anyone with symptoms of meningitis to see a healthcare provider right away because some types of meningitis can be very serious, and only a doctor can determine if you have the disease, the type of meningitis, and the best treatment, which can sometimes be lifesaving. Symptoms include: fever, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to bright light, sleepiness or trouble waking up from sleep, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, and lethargy (a lack of energy). If your child is diagnosed with meningitis, please notify the school as soon as possible.

Elementary CAMPUS/MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

We hope all of our families can participate in the Brookfield PTA Fall Festival on Thursday, October 26th from 4:00 - 7:30 pm. Please note that this is a family event and a parent or adult caretaker must be present with children in order to participate in the activities. There will be after-school care provided until 6:00 pm, and these students will be escorted around Fall Festival by staff, but will still need a parent to arrive in order to participate in the activities. Thank you to all of the parents who have donated wine and to the PTA officers who have worked many long, exhausting hours putting this special night together. It will be a wonderful event!

Please note that both Thursday, October 26th and Tuesday, October 31st require regular school dress for Elementary and Middle School students. Students should arrive to school in uniform; they may change into costumes once dismissed from class at the end of the school day.

CHAUTAUQUA: GREAT JOB to all of our Chautauqua presenters who performed last Friday, October 20th. You all were outstanding! We had Caroline J. as Amelia Earhart, Caden T. as Jim Thorpe, Jaanavi G. as Henrietta Leavitt, Gysel N. as Fida Kahlo, Enzo L. as Paul Revere, Laila P. as Antoine de-Sainte-Exupery, Shealynn T. as Madeleine L'Engle, Baleigh T. as Queen Victoria, Keira B. as Mildred Dresselhaus, Anjali G. as Louis Zamparini, Madeline B. as Ginger Rogers, and Taylor B. as Muhammad Ali.

TO ALL 8th GRADE STUDENTS: Please plan on attending two upcoming events to prepare for High School (yes, HIGH SCHOOL!).
  • AACT High School (Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology) will be hosting 8th Grade Tours on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. AACT is located at 380 Edison Way in Reno. For more information about AACT, visit http://www.aacttrailblazers.com/
  • There will be an 8th Grade Expo on October 30th and 31st at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Employees and schools will be there to talk to you about the high-demand jobs and educational opportunities in Northern Nevada. The convention runs both Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm. The Convention Center is located at 4590 S. Virginia Street in Reno.
LUNCHTIME WARM-UPS: While we are happy to warm up student lunches at lunchtime, we ask all parents to label your containers. This will not only enable lost containers to make their way back home to you, but will significantly expedite your child receiving his/her lunch!

ATTENTION PARENTS: We are implementing a new security process regarding your children exiting campus after school has been dismissed. ALL children will be checked-in and logged upon their final class ending. This does not mean you will be charged. It is strictly for the purpose of tracking all children who are on campus. Charging for after-school care is determined by your child's grade and clubs. It is imperative that when you pick up your child that you make sure he/she is signed out! After-school Care staff will be ready to help with clipboards for signing out your child. Please make sure that you see a staffer before leaving campus. If you do not, you will be charged for aftercare as a result.

FRIDAYS AFTER-SCHOOL CARE: All students remaining on campus after 1:15 pm on Fridays will be signed into After-School Care, even if a parent or caregiver is present. To avoid any charges, please be off campus by 1:15 pm. Students who participate in a specific club will not be charged for after-school care while in the club. Thank you for your cooperation so we can staff our After-School personnel correctly.
