PTA Fall Festival is Thursday, October 27th at the Elementary School (Main Campus) from 3:30 – 7:30 pm. All families are invited! This is a family event that we hope you can enjoy with your child, so each student must have a parent/grandparent/caregiver accompany him/her in order to attend. If you have arranged for another parent to supervise your child, please let your teacher know. We will have normal After-School Care hours (3:00-6:00 PM) this day if you and your child cannot attend the event. Regular Dress Code is required for the school day at the Elementary and Middle Schools. Parents can bring costumes with them at dismissal time for their children to change into before Fall Festival (Middle School students can bring their costumes with them and change after last period). TLC students may come to school in their costumes for the all-school costume parade. Please bring a change of clothes.

If you have any great pictures of school events that you take throughout the school year, we would love to have them for our yearbook (it's never too early for us to start working on it)! If you took any shots during the first day of school, Friday assemblies, Jog or Trike-A-Thon, please send them to tdorey@brookfieldschool.com for Elementary and Middle Schools and mjacobson@brookfieldschool.com for TLC. You can also drop off a labelled USB storage device (we will return it to you). We will definitely be looking for Fall Festival pics from all of our families. Thanks in advance for sharing!

Effective with the December Hot Lunch menu, all lunch and milk payments will be billed through your FACTS account. We will no longer be accepting checks for this payment. Thank you for your cooperation as we streamline the Hot Lunch program. Please remember, you can always order milk even if you are not ordering lunch.

The Brookfield Middle School is hosting the Schuler, Damonte, and Monroe 2016 Barb Smith & Jan Monroe Memorial Shoebox Party on Sunday, November 20th from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. Volunteers are welcome to come help pack Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to send to disadvantaged children worldwide. Come and spend a festive afternoon eating, shopping, visiting, and packing! All you need are: a little love, bags of candy to share, and items to fill your box (approximately $25 total). The Monroe Schuler Foundation will pay the $7 S&H for every box built, plus provide the wrapping paper and tape, as well as additional items for your box such as toothbrushes. Please RSVP to Carol at 775-722-8323 or adm@renoseven.com. For more information about the actual boxes, visit: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/.

Elementary CAMPUS/MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

We want to thank the Drinkwater Family for their wonderful Young Chautauqua presentation on Friday, October 7th. The students were introduced to aviator Jacqueline Cochran, as well as what a Chautauqua performance is. We hope this helped the younger and newer students prepare for their presentations.

Students will be performing their Chautauqua presentations in the classroom over the next two weeks. Ask your teacher for your child's Chautauqua schedule. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to come and watch the individual performances in the classroom. One student from each class will then be selected to perform at the All-School Chautauqua Assembly on Friday, November 4th.

4th-8th Grade Basketball has started! Basketball practice will be every Monday and Wednesday from 3:45-5:00 pm in the Main Campus Great Room. Competitions will be held at various locations around the Truckee, Tahoe, Plumas area. The season runs from October 17th through February 1st. There will be additional Saturday practices on October 22nd and November 5th at an off-site gym from 8:00–9:45 am. More information will come home soon. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Aitchison at caitchison@brookfieldschool.com.

Brookfield School will be participating in the Great Nevada Shakeout tomorrow, Thursday, October 20th. At 10:20 am on 10/20, our students will be practicing what to do in the event of an earthquake. The goal of the Great Shakeout is to teach students the importance of earthquake preparedness and how to stay safe and calm in an actual earthquake. We are dismissing from the classrooms this day from 3:00-3:15 and 3:30-3:45 for the specific grades. Students remaining after the first fifteen minutes will be sent to After-School care in the Great Room.

Brookfield Middle School has started a Get It Together Mathematics Lab. Ms. Leonard will be available to 5th – 8th grade students Monday through Thursday, from 3:40 – 4:40 pm. Students interested in having fun while improving in math are encouraged to join. Please see Ms. Brumley for cost information.

If your child brings a lunch from home that requires heating up, please label your containers. We have dozens of students who bring items requiring microwaving and they often forget what they bring. Labeling items will significantly reduce the amount of time students are waiting for their lunches and prevent students from eating others' lunches. This is especially important as we have students with food allergies. Please also note that lunches requiring more than 2 minutes of heating will be held until all other lunches are warmed. The lunch staff thanks you for your cooperation, and thanks the families who have been sending in labeled containers! Look at this great example!

Beginning this Friday, Popcorn Fridays will no longer be selling ice cream or popsicles. We will be serving popcorn, Smencils, and lemonade or hot chocolate (season-dependent).

Halloween Smencils are here! Smencils are environmentally-friendly pencils made by rolling sheets of recycled newspaper tightly around #2 graphite writing cores. They are then hardened, soaked with gourmet liquid scents, and fitted with erasers. Each Smencil comes in its own corn-based biodegradable Freshness Tube. Spooky Smencils then have a cute little topper to seal in the spookiness! Halloween Smencils are $1 each and they come in five spooktacular scents: Slime Lime, Trick or Treat, Monster Marsh, Pumpkin Panic, and Grape Goblin. They are on sale at Friday Baristas and Friday Popcorn.
