Please be advised that Washoe County is reporting an increased number of cases of viral meningitis, especially in the 5-17 age group. Viral meningitis is the most common type of meningitis. It is often less severe than bacterial meningitis, and most people get better on their own (without treatment) within 7-10 days. However, it is very important for anyone with symptoms of meningitis to see a healthcare provider right away because some types of meningitis can be very serious, and only a doctor can determine if you have the disease, the type of meningitis, and the best treatment, which can sometimes be lifesaving. Symptoms include: fever, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to bright light, sleepiness or trouble waking up from sleep, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, and lethargy (a lack of energy). If your child is diagnosed with meningitis, please notify the school as soon as possible.

SNACK BREAK: Just a reminder that all students have a nutrition break every morning. Please be sure to send your child with a healthy, nut-free snack every day. Don't forget about Pizza Days and Fridays, when you may not typically pack a lunch.

Some parents have inquired about the Mount Rose Youth Lessons that begin in January 2018 for children of ages 4-12. Mount Rose will be offering Friday afternoon youth lessons again this year, but they are limiting this day's availability to just 2 or 3 schools (including Brookfield). While this makes the parental process much easier and the lessons more enjoyable, the positions are limited to the first 60 students who sign up. We are still waiting for a link from Mount Rose which will enable you to register for this class.

As the cold weather approaches, students will be wearing more layers and accessories. Please label your child's sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. We prefer first and last name, but whatever identification you can fit on items will help you retain your clothing.

Parents, like it or not, it is candy season! We know how hard the temptation to toss a little sweetie in your child's lunchbox is, but we hope you keep those treats at home. Please remember that we are a nut-free school, and this includes peanut butter candy.

PARENT SURVEY: Your opinion matters! Please take a quick second to complete our survey about the school start times and calendar.

ATTENTION PARENTS: We are implementing a new security process regarding your children exiting campus after school has been dismissed. ALL children will be checked-in and logged upon their final class ending. This does not mean you will be charged. It is strictly for the purpose of tracking all children who are on campus. Charging for after-school care is determined by your child's grade and clubs. It is imperative that when you pick up your child that you make sure he/she is signed out! After-school Care staff will be ready to help with clipboards for signing out your child. Please make sure that you see a staffer before leaving campus. If you do not, you will be charged for aftercare as a result.

THIRD GRADE VIOLINISTS will be performing at this Friday's assembly, October 13th. We hope you can come watch them play. They will also perform again, with the 1st and 2nd grade violinists at the November 17th assembly.

CHAUTAUQUA: Believe it or not, it is Chautauqua season! This Friday, October 20th will be our All-School Chautauqua performance at assembly. See your teacher for classroom specifics.

PICTURE RE-TAKES: Fall Portrait Re-Takes / Make-Ups will be Wednesday, October 25th. If you are requesting re-takes, please let the front office know so we can pull your child out for pictures that day. Please be sure your child is in dress uniform.

TO ALL 8th GRADE STUDENTS: Please plan on attending two upcoming events to prepare for High School (yes, HIGH SCHOOL!).
  • AACT High School (Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology) will be hosting 8th Grade Tours on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. AACT is located at 380 Edison Way in Reno. For more information about AACT, visit
  • There will be an 8th Grade Expo on October 30th and 31st at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Employees and schools will be there to talk to you about the high-demand jobs and educational opportunities in Northern Nevada. The convention runs both Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm. The Convention Center is located at 4590 S. Virginia Street in Reno.
ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER CARE: After-care is available from school dismissal until 6:00pm. After-care is at an additional cost and is charged per family, not per student. If you plan to use after-care on a regular basis, you can save money by contacting the school and have the monthly after care bundle added to your bill. If your student is picked up prior to the end of their Homework Club, there is no charge for after-care. All students remaining after their Homework Club ends will be signed into After-School Care and charged starting from the dismissal of school. When picking up your child from After-School Care, please be sure to notify staff that your child is leaving.

FRIDAYS AFTER-SCHOOL CARE: All students remaining on campus after 1:15 pm on Fridays will be signed into After-School Care, even if a parent or caregiver is present. To avoid any charges, please be off campus by 1:15 pm. Students who participate in a specific club will not be charged for after-school care while in the club. Thank you for your cooperation so we can staff our After-School personnel correctly.

PIZZA THURSDAYS: Pizza Thursdays will be offered every Thursday when school is in attendance. You may purchase one or two slices of pizza with a side. Please return the order form by 3:30 pm on the Wednesday before the Pizza Day, as we place the order that evening. Payments can be done via FACTS or by check. We still have several students who did not sign up for the additional Thursday on November 30th. We will be ordering our average number of pizzas that day, so if your child does not have lunch, we will supply him/her with his/her usual order and bill your account. If you have any issues with this, and would rather not toss your dough away for 11/30/17, please let us know!

LUNCHTIME WARM-UPS: While we are happy to warm up student lunches at lunchtime, we ask all parents to label your containers. This will not only enable lost containers to make their way back home to you, but will significantly expedite your child receiving his/her lunch!
