MAIN CAMPUS/MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

We are celebrating Mother's Day at the Main Campus on Friday, May 6th. We hope that all mothers are able to join their children for brunch in the Great Room. If a mother, grandmother, or family friend is unable to join your child, please notify the office so we can ensure your child sits with a friendly face.
  • 4th – 8th Grades: 9:00 – 9:45 am
  • 2nd & 3rd Grades: 10:00 – 10:45 am
  • 1st Grade: 11:00 – 11:45 am
  • Pre-1st Grade: 12:00 – 12:45 pm
All 5th – 8th grade students are encouraged to attend the last session of Math Circles on Saturday, May 14th. Join us at the Middle School from 10:00-11:30 am. This is a great time for people to come together and do math, and explore non-traditional problems that are engaging and…maybe even fun! Teachers are also welcome to attend the teacher session from 12:30-2:00 pm. Sign up at http://wolfweb.unr.edu/homepage/keppelma/RENOCIRCLE.htm .

We have scheduled the Spring Assessment to be administered in May. Students in Pre-First will be tested the week of May 16th – May 19th. Students in First through Eighth grade will be assessed during the week of May 23rd – May 26th. As a reminder, here are actions parents can take to ensure a positive assessment situation for your child:
  • Make sure your child attends school on all testing days, unless he/she is ill.
  • Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep the nights before testing.
  • Make sure your child eats a good breakfast on mornings of testing.
  • On days when your child will be testing, we ask that he/she arrive on time (preferably a few minutes early).
  • Please do not schedule any morning appointments on these days, and please do not pick up your child earlier than lunch.
  • Make an effort to help your child feel relaxed and unrushed by allowing plenty of time for daily routines.
  • Give your child words of encouragement to let him/her know you have confidence in his/her ability to do his/her best.
**If you have previously scheduled an appointment that cannot be changed, please notify your teacher as soon as possible.

If you send your child with food that needs to be heated, please label your containers as best as you can. We have dozens of children who require microwave heating and the containers can get mixed up and moved around while waiting for heating. You would be amazed at how many students forget what they had packed in their lunches! Labelling containers will help expedite the process of distributing warm lunches…before they become cold again!

We hope that everyone is enjoying the new hot lunch food! Please remember that all lunch orders must be submitted by 3:00 pm on the Thursday prior to the week for which you are ordering. We apologize, but we cannot make exceptions.

We are very proud to announce that Brookfield School has received the rights to the award-winning musical production of The Lion King. This will be the full school production, including the music, props, and scenery (which means there will also be plenty of art time with Ms. Reid!). We welcome all future superstars and artistic geniuses to the auditions. Campers will create and roar their way through the summer in this 4-week program. There will be two sessions offered over summer, weeks 1-4 and weeks 5-8. Each group will be putting on a full production during the last week of the 4-week program; students will need to be signed up for all four weeks of the session to participate.

Calling all future chess masters! Brookfield School is hosting the 2016 Chess Kidz Individual and School Championship on June 4th and June 5th. This is a USCF-rated event in five sections from First grade through adult. Registration is done online at www.ChessKidz.org/ or email ChessKidz@ChessKidz.org for more information.
