Brookfield News and Notes

Mrs. Toland and the Brookfield PTA would like to thank everyone for participating in the Box Tops competition. Congratulations to Mrs. DeRosa’s 3rd Grade class for winning the PIZZA PARTY!! Thank you to Mrs. Toland for the countless hours of cutting, sorting, and mailing the Box Tops. Box Tops are a perfect way to remind our children that we can all work together to turn something very small into something big and wonderful!

The Catalina Marine Institute Science Camp Field Trip for the 6th – 8th Grade is planned for Sunday, April 8th through Friday, April 13th. Our Middle school will be using all the funds raised by Friday Morning Coffee Baristas to trek on a plane, bus, then hotel, bus and boat to get to Catalina Island Marine Institute. They will then enjoy 5 days of marine biology, snorkeling and kayaking. We hope you have a great time!

Thank you for another great re-enrollment season! We are so happy to have so many of our Brookfield families returning to us. Many of our classrooms are now full and we are accepting students for the second classroom or waitlisted for the third classroom. If you missed the deadline and would still like to re-enroll, please contact Administration as soon as possible. We have opened enrollment to the public as of March 1st. Welcoming Wednesdays are a great time to invite any friends to visit our campuses from 9:00-11:00 am, or schedule a private tour. Ask about our Bring-a-Friend discount!

Art / Invention / Science Night – MARCH 22, 2018

There is an exciting event coming up for all of Elementary and Middle School in which your Brookfield student will be participating. All families are invited to join us for our “Art, Invention, and Science Night” on Thursday, March 22nd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Brookfield’s Annual Expo combines many skills your child learns at Brookfield. All students will be displaying their inventions or science experiments and reports. Mrs. Reid is also joining this wonderful night, and the students will be displaying their artwork. The event will take place at both the Elementary and Middle School campuses. Artwork, wine, and refreshments will be in our Art Gallery at Middle School, and the inventions and science projects will be at the Elementary School.

Classes who chose to do inventions will become junior inventors, expanding their creative problem solving skills by creating their own inventions. The inventions are created to solve every day problems. Problem solving skills are vital in today’s world. The invention process helps students develop these skills at an early age.

Other classes have chosen to explore the scientific process by running their own experiments. The students have already begun working on their experiments and will be presenting their findings. Look for information coming home from your student which will explain the step-by-step guide to creating his or her own invention or science experiment. Please go over this information with your child to make sure you, your child, and your child’s teacher are on the same agenda regarding timelines, expectations, and deadlines. If you have any questions, we recommend you ask your student’s teacher for clarification as early as possible.

Your support and encouragement are necessary for a successful completion of this project. However, these inventions, reports, and experiments are to be completed by the students. We ask parents to allow their children to own all facets of the project and help only when adult supervision is necessary. Remember, some of the best ideas come from what may at first seem like a silly concept to an adult, but is of serious concern to a child! The projects which garner the most attention and consideration at the expo are the ones clearly assembled by the students, and little imperfections and improvising is expected. If you make a model, it does not have to work.

Each student will submit a three-sided display board except Pre1st and 4th Grade. Pre-1st will present on one board and 4th Grade projects are provided by the school on life-size sheets of paper. We have a limited supply of science boards for sale in the office for your convenience of $5.00 each. These boards can also be purchased at Target, Wal-Mart, and Michael’s.

Please feel free to ask us if you have any further questions. We hope your child really gets into the creation of his or her invention or science experiment. These projects can be fun and full of learning not just for your child, but also for the entire household! We hope you can join us on Thursday, March 22nd, but we ask that you please leave your display boards at school for everyone else to enjoy for the remainder of the evening.
