FRIDAY ASSEMBILIES: The best way to stay current on school events and meet other parents (and other teachers!) is to attend our weekly assemblies. Pre-1st – 8th grade assemblies are in the Elementary School Great Room every Friday at 8:30 am. TLC assemblies are every Friday at 9:15 am in the TLC Great Room. Middle School students can be dropped off at Middle School prior to 8:15 am and then will be walked over to the assembly, or they can be brought directly to the Elementary Campus after 8:15 am. There is not a class prior to assembly.

Let's kick off the 2017-2018 school year with a Brookfield Parent Meet & Greet. Join PTA, staff, and parents for refreshments, appetizers, prizes, and a sampling of local grass-fed beef on Thursday, September 14th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Thank you to the Schuler Family for hosting the event at their home, located at 2215 Rhodes Road in South Reno. This is an adults-only event. If you need childcare, please contact Brookfield School by September 10th. Please RSVP for the event to Beth or Cathie at 775-722-8323 and let them know if you will be bringing a bottle of wine or appetizer to share.

We want to thank our families for their understanding of the lack of a Hot Lunch program. We made several attempts to acquire a new provider over the summer and will continue looking at various options. At this time, we do not have a provider and have no definitive date for one.

It's never too early to start saving pictures for the yearbook! If you have any great First-Day photos, please send them to Mrs. Goecker at kgoecker@brookfieldschool.com. Please note that any photo sent may be posted on the website, our social media pages, in the newsletter, and in the yearbook. We will not print names.

Elementary CAMPUS/MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Welcome back to school! For the security and safety of your children, all parents/guardians should have security gate key cards to obtain access to the school campus. Please note that these key cards will access the front and back gates from the 7:30 am – 8:30 am and 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Anyone visiting the campus during school hours must enter school through the front gate and check in with front office personnel. If you do not have a key card, you may purchase one in the front office.

To all of our new families, please note that there is additional parking in the rear of the school, courtesy of South Reno Baptist Church. There is an entrance gate by the basketball court that uses the same security card as the front gate; you must have a security card to access this gate as there is no call service to the office. This is a much easier entrance to those on the west side of school (Mrs. Bratt, Mrs. Menesini, Mrs. Post, Mrs. Parkin, and Mrs. DeRosa). As a reminder to everyone, please drive slowly and safely through our front parking lot as well as the church parking lot as our youngest students are still learning parking lot safety. The church has graciously allowed our use of their lot during school hours if we drive responsibly. Please note and follow the directional arrows in the back lot.

FRIDAY EARLY RELEASE: Main and Middle School students are released every Friday at 1:00 pm. Middle School students can be picked up at Middle School at 1:00 pm. They will be walked over to the Elementary Campus after approximately five minutes on Fridays.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MONDAY-THURSDAY RELEASE: Middle School students can be picked up at the Middle School Campus from the dismissal time of 3:30 pm until the end of Homework Blub at 4:40 pm. All students remaining after 3:30 pm will attend the new Middle School Homework Club at their campus. Middle School Homework Club runs from 3:40 - 4:40 pm, at which time all remaining students will be walked over to the Elementary Campus.

MILK: You can still purchase daily milk for your child through the school. You may sign up for a date range or for the entire year (Monday-Thursday or Monday-Friday). Milk forms went home this week and are available in the front office. Milk is $0.50 a day.

PROJECT DISCOVERY: On Thursday August 30th (TOMORROW!) and Friday, September 1st, the Fourth – Eighth grade students will be heading to Project Discovery at Sky Tavern for an outdoor education experience. Students will learn team building and leadership skills as they navigate through a ropes challenge course. Students will depart from their respective schools at 7:45 am on both days. On Thursday, Fourth grade students will return to School at 5:00 pm; you can also pick them up at Project Discover BY 4:30 pm. Fifth - Eighth grade students will stay at Project Discovery to participate in an evening program. Middle School students need to be picked up from Project Discovery on Thursday at 10:00 p.m. On Friday, Fourth – Eighth grade students will again depart at 7:45 am and return to Main Campus at 5:00 pm to be picked up. All participants should have submitted their paperwork by now. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers helping transport the students!

PIZZA THURSDAYS: We are excited to announce that we will begin Pizza Thursdays starting next week, Thursday, September 7th! Pizza Thursdays will be offered every Thursday when school is in attendance. You may purchase one or two slices of pizza with a side. Order forms went home today. Please return the form by Wednesday, September 6th for next-day pizza. Payments can be done via FACTS or by check. Please disregard the last line of the flier that indicates FACTS cannot be charged.

SPANISH! We are very proud to unveil new Spanish teaching techniques that Mrs. Keppelmann will be utilizing during Spanish classes and the Immersion program. We spent the summer learning a Language Acquisition system. The Language Acquisition teaches a foreign language through interacting with compelling and contextualized comprehensible input. Mrs. Keppelmann will be using story-telling and reading to have the students learn the language through unconscious acquisition. We are confident you will be pleased with the results! Stop by the front office for more details of the Comprehensible Input method.

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the departure of the wonderful Mrs. Dooley. She is moving on to brighter things and while we will truly miss her, we wish her happiness in the future. Her last day will be Friday, September 8th. If you see her around campus, please wish her well. We do not know what we will do without her.
